Summer Camp 2009Where? This year the Troop is going to be staying at Ockanickon Scout ReservationFor those not in the know, Ockanickon is our council's scout camp. We will be going from July 19th to July 26th. Camp Fees Camp fees, if not already registered, Please check with Mr. Eyre. Uniforms The Boy Scuot uniform, informally known as the Class A, consists of the hat, shirt, belt, pants/shorts and socks. It will be worn going to and returning from camp, evening retreat, dinner and for Vespers services. It is also considered appropriate for opening and closing campfires. Class B will consist of a Boy Scout (including Troop) T-Shirt, Scout pants/shorts, and Scout socks, and will be the preferred attire all other times around camp. If you do not have ample enough clss B shirts, Mr. Lacerte has an ample supply. Sleeved tee shirts will also be appropriate. The Class B t-shirt WILL BE WORN for breakfast and lunches, so make certain you have them for that. The Trading Post As is common with all camps we have visited Pckanickon has their own Trading Post. It is stocked with Ocaknickon Scout Reservation paraphenelia, Official Boy Scouts of America gear and uniforms, Merit Badge pamphlets, stamps and handicraft items. Never fear. They also carry the usual soda, candy and other "nutritional goodies" to keep you fueled. So bring plenty of money. Contacting your Scout at Camp During our stay there, if you wish to get an ordinary message to your child, you may accomplish this in one of two methods:
Sunday is Parent's Day and all visitors are welcome then. Parents & siblings are invited to explore the camp on Sunday afternoon. Everyone is invited to the Picnic Dinner Sunday evening. The cost will be $7.00 per, $5.50 for kids under 11. All guests must leave by 7:00 pm Visitors, other than registered members of the troop, WILL NOT BE PERMITTED during the week. No exceptions. During our last stay, at Ockanickon, one family chose to ignore this, and WE HAD TO HEAR ABOUT IT FROM CAMP STAFF! It was NOT PLEASANT. Registered troop members must check in at the office before proceeding to our site. Parents and siblings are also invited to the Saturday morning Quick Breakfast. It will be held from 8:45 a.m. - 9:45 ) while supplies last). They are then encouraged to attne the closing ceremonies. As space is limited, please let Mr. Bacon know if you wish to atend either the Sunday Dinner or Saturday breakfast (or both). He will include the number of attendees when he submits his roster, three weeks prior to our week at camp. Medications: As always medications will be strictly administered. Please have any medications your child needs in a clear plastic zip-lock bag with your child’s name on it and any special instructions on the label as well. Medications will be collected as soon as we get into camp. ALL MEDICATIONS MUST BE IN THE ORIGINALCONTAINER OR ACCOMPANIED BY A DOCTOR SIGNED PRESCRIPTION FORM. Mr. Bacon has a permission form for medication to be given at camp. Sunday July 19, 2009: All scouts will meet at the church at 12:30. Medical forms need to be turned in and to be signed before departure. The troop trailer will be going to camp, but will more than likely be going up early so will not be available to transport extra gear. If you should need to put stuff in the trailer, it is recommended to get it to Mr. Bacon's house before Saturday the 18th. Scouts are to be in CLASS A (Field uniform) for arrival at camp. They must also have their swim suit on under their uniform or be prepared to change as soon as they arrive, if they have not already completed the swim test. Any outstanding medical forms must be presented upon arrival at the church on Sunday. Money: Camp pictures will be taken on Sunnday evening. If you wish a camp picture for your child, please be sure he has at least $10 . If he is taking any merit badges that require a kit to be bought, or rounds for the rifle range, he will need money for that. Also, as is the case every year, the trading post is open during the day. It can provide the boy with all the treats and sugar he can handle for the week. All scouts LOVE the trading post. During this week, your son should prepare a schedule of his activities, for the week and present it to Mr. Bacon upon arrival at camp. Knives: If your son brings a knife to camp and does not currently have a Tote 'N Chip card, he can give the knife to one of the leaders, Mr. Bacon, Mr. Thorne, or Mr. Lacerte until the boy receives his Tote 'N Chip from the first year program, or one of the higher rank scouts in the troop. All other scouts MUST have their Tote 'N Chip card if they wish to carry a knife. Parents & siblings are invited to join us for a "quick breakfast" on Saturday morning, 8:45 to 9:45 am. They are also encouraged to atend the final flag ceremony and awards presentations. Following this will be our camp check by the site managers and dismissal. We are generally ready to leave between 11 am and 11:30 am. Please be there before this time or have arrangements for your child’s trip home.
